A life long educator with experience as a teacher, school administrator, parent and grandparent, I believe that a robust, publicly funded education system is the cornerstone of democracy and of the communities in which we live. I want to ensure that funding for our education system grows to meet the needs of our province. Alberta currently provides the lowest per capita student funding in Canada. This needs to change. Our students and teachers deserve classroom sizes that allow excellence in learning for every child. Our schools deserve the funds needed to provide student and teacher supports.
Communities thrive when schools thrive. I am committed to supporting excellence in education, through collaboration with parents, teachers, school administrators, the community and the provincial government. I believe that providing the resources for every student, family and educator, can result in an education system that supports and nurtures each student as they grow to their fullest potential academically, socially, physically and emotionally. I bring 30 years of educational experience and I am a passionate advocate for inclusive environments that respect the needs of all students, their families, their teachers and school administrators.
My professional background has given me the practical understanding and lived experience that comes from working in the classroom, in schools, districts and with the provincial government. These experiences have provided me ample opportunity to develop skills in working, listening, leading and collaborating with education stakeholders. As a parent and now grandparent of students attending three St. Albert Public schools, I have seen first hand both the excellent work and the challenges faced by St. Albert's teachers and their families.
I believe excellence in education is possible through open, respectful dialogue, opportunities for meaningful collaboration and a willingness to examine and explore the needs and possibilities within a publicly funded education system.
With a deep understanding of the Alberta School Act that governs education and a willingness to engage with the appropriate Alberta Government authorities, I hope to be part of a team that advocates for appropriate levels of funding for Alberta’s schools, ensuring they have the resources needed to achieve the best possible outcomes for all stakeholders.
As a St. Albert School Trustee, Sheila Glebe is committed to:
Supporting and respecting the critical work done by our educators, parents and students in achieving excellence in education.
Listening and responding to the questions and concerns of every educational stakeholder.
Working with the local community and the provincial government to ensure that St. Albert Public Schools have the resources needed to meet the needs and goals of every single student.
Advocating on behalf of educators, parents and students to ensure a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment in every school.
With passion, professional experience and a vested interest in the schools of St. Albert Public School District, I believe that a strong organization is one that doesn’t just hear the concerns of stakeholders, it listens and brings people together for the benefit of all concerned. I would be honoured to have the opportunity to add my voice and experience to St. Albert Public Schools.
